We started harvest last week, and the fruit looks fantastic! After a successful weekend of Farmers Markets under our belts and the start-up kinks working out, we are well into the 2012 harvest season!
Harvest is right around the corner!
We’re just a few short weeks away from the 2012 Harvest! The crop looks great, the weather is cooperating, and we’ve got our new interns starting to get a taste of life on a blueberry farm – it’s going to be a great season! After a recent trip to Eugene, Oregon (blueberry country!), and a stroll around their beautiful Farmers Market, we are getting excited to get started. Keep posted for updates!
We’re Hiring for Summer Harvest Positions
We are looking for energetic interns to work on our farm and at farmer’s markets during the 2012 harvest season (May-August). Do you have an interest in working on an established certified organic farm, in a beautiful part of California surrounded by miles of forests? The season is short, the hours are long, the days are hot, but the nearby crystal clear creeks help wash the dust off, and housing can be provided. We are currently taking applications (resume + letter of interest) for paid internships for the 2012 season; these positions involve managing the harvest crew, oversight of packing crew, quality control and logistics. Contact us for more information.
The whirlwind known as Blueberry Harvest is done!
Wow! This past week flew by so quickly. We just wrapped up our last weekend selling blueberries at our favorite farmers markets. Starting the season so late in the year as we did, we weren’t sure what kind of crop we would end up with, but that unseasonably cool spring carried into an unseasonably cool summer, and we saw a fairly normal (for us) harvest, albeit late.
Now it’s time to tidy up, bring some neglected landscaping back to life, and catch up on some much needed rest! Thank you to everyone who helped us get through the season, to all the wonderful folks out there who buy our blueberries. We are mindful of your support, and we are grateful.
Jams, Jellies, and Pies, Oh My!!!
This weekend would be a very good weekend to pick up some Pie Bags from us at the SF Ferry Plaza and Berkeley Farmers Markets. Too busy to make jam? Pop that puppy in the freezer, wait till you have a nice quiet weekend, and cook up some delectable blueberry jam. The beauty of these pie bags is that they wait patiently until you are in the mood for a project. We have about another week left for the season, so grab ’em while you can! See you tomorrow!
New this weekend!!
We’re bringing FROZEN Premium Blueberries to the Bay Area farmers markets this weekend! The premium berries are in 5 lb bags. We will have our regular bags of “seconds” as always, but have had some requests for the #1 berries also. The frozen bags will be available at SF Ferry Plaza & Berkeley Farmers Markets on Saturday. Chico customers can contact us directly for more information on frozen blueberries.
Mid-Week Supply!
It’s Wednesday, Hump Day, and you’re out of blueberries. What to do? If you’re in Chico, you are in luck. A delivery was made early this morning while you were only thinking of coffee to Chico Natural Foods Co-op.
National Blueberry Muffin Day!
Ok, so it was yesterday…. BUT. It can never be too late for a delectable blueberry muffin, can it? I have a blueberry bread recipe that saves the trouble of muffin tins, muffin papers, etc., but to each, his/her own! Still tastes fantastic – see the recipe.
Davis & Sacramento friends –
Just want to let you know our blueberries are available at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and Davis Food Co-op. Bring your own container to Sac, they are selling the berries in bulk! Save on packaging! Davis customers can find our logo on the clamshells. Thanks for eating blueberries!
Blueberry Tasting at Chico Natural Foods
We are happy to be included in Chico Natural Foods Co-op’s Member Appreciation Day celebration on Friday, July 8. There are fun things happening at the store all day, and we will be there between 11 am and 1 pm to offer up tastings of our fresh blueberries. Come by and say hi and support your local food co-op!!
